Biography
Mr. Lau commenced his professional career with Peat Marwick, Penang, where he trained in both audit and taxation. During his articleship, he qualified as a member of the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA) and was awarded double gold medals for achieving the highest marks in two professional examination papers, reflecting his strong technical foundation from the outset of his career.
In 1979, he joined Chua & Associates as a Partner, following which the firm was renamed Chua, Lau & Associates. Under his leadership, the Firm grew into one of the pioneering local accounting practices in Penang and subsequently operated as the Northern Branch of one of Malaysia's leading accounting firms. The Firm was later renamed KS Lau & Co., where it has continued to build a reputation for providing trusted audit, tax and advisory services to businesses across a wide range of industries.
Throughout a distinguished career spanning more than four decades, Mr. Lau has developed extensive expertise in taxation, with a particular focus on tax planning, tax investigations, tax audits and dispute resolution. He has successfully represented numerous clients before the tax authorities and is widely recognised for his pragmatic approach, technical knowledge and ability to resolve complex tax matters.
Mr. Lau is an Approved Company Auditor, a Licensed Tax Agent and an Approved Company Liquidator. He currently serves as the Senior Partner and Managing Director of the Firm's Tax Department, where he continues to provide strategic leadership and technical guidance while mentoring the next generation of professionals within the Firm.
